UNSOLICITED ADVICE…

From: “Ten Choices You Will Regret in Ten Years” (the-open-mind.com)

Keeping negative company. – Don’t let someone who has a bad attitude give it to you.  Don’t let them get to you.  They can’t pull the trigger if you don’t hand them the gun.  When you remember that keeping the company of negative people is a choice, instead of an obligation, you free yourself to keep the company of compassion instead of anger, generosity instead of greed, and patience instead of anxiety.

It’s quicksand we can all get sucked into…the negative energy of a person we love, respect, or admire.  And it’s quicksand that can kill passion, obliterate grace, and convince us that “negative” equals “normal, rational, protective, and responsible.”

Negativity is contagious.  Negativity can so envelop our hearts and minds that it becomes our first filter for everything that happens or is said.  Negativity is addictive, for in our practicing of negative thought about others, we convince ourselves that negativity creates protection and safety…and we call it pragmatism.  These things are so engrained in this world that even what we call “news” programming cashes in only if what’s featured is negative!

Christ teaches us that negativity is a choice, not an obligation.  At every turn, Pharisees and disciples alike attempted to get Jesus to see the world the way they saw it.  Imperfect meant undeserving.  Unable meant unwilling.  Unwilling meant intolerant.  Whether it was a prostitute or a Roman officer, a blind man or a widow, an adult or a child…Jesus chose to always look at others without negativity.  In fact, Jesus sought out the positive, and in doing so, put a stop to evil actions brought forward by negativity.

To allow negative thought, words, and actions to run our lives is to invite the effects of evil into our very being.  When we focus on negativity, we lose connection with grace.  We get stuck in patterns of abusive speech and belittling attitudes.  And we separate ourselves further and further from the Spirit that so moved and blessed Jesus’ life.

Seek out the negativity present in your life.  Question it.  Turn it on its head, or hold it always at a distance from your self and examine it.  For, nothing of love and grace and compassion and trust and justice can come from a negative state of being.

And negativity is NOT required of you to see this world for what it is.

Keep up the good Gospel, MCC!  You Are Loved!

Let no one tell you otherwise!
Yay, God!!!
