Blessing of the Animals!
Saint Francis of Assisi Join us TONIGHT, October 23rd at 6:30pm for our annual Blessing of the Animals service in honor of the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi.

St. Francis, whose feast day is October 4th, loved the larks flying about his hilltop town. He and his early brothers, staying in a small hovel, allowed themselves to be displaced by a donkey.

Francis wrote a Canticle of the Creatures, an ode to God’s living things. “All praise to you, Oh Lord, for all these brother and sister creatures.” And there was testimony in the cause for St. Clare of Assisi’s canonization that referred to her little cat!

Enough…Your Stewardship Campaign

Enough: Discovering Joy Through Simplicity and Generosity

In our study last week, we challenged ourselves to address the illness of Affluenza and Credititis.  To find healing from Affluenza, we must stop comparing ourselves to the perceived riches and material abundance.  In our comparisons we make ourselves ill with envy and greed, and we suffer under the burdens of unrealized pride.  This leads us into a secondary illness…that of Credititis.  For as we yearn and succumb to our Affluenza, we engage in the acquiring of credit to get us where we cannot be on our own.  That, in turn, weakens us further as we struggle to pay ourselves out of a trench of debt.

This is as much a spiritual condition as a financial one.  For the grave sins of greed, envy, pride, and gluttony are sins that impact the spirit most deeply.  Only in turning away from these conditions may we find healing of those spiritual injuries.

How can we possibly make a difference as a healthy
Body of Christ with all that going on???

WE CAN!!!  BUT ONLY BY WORKING TOGETHER!  Let’s get a hold on some of that anxiety, anger and worry and work together as a family in faith to reach wellness, so we can live and work as the Body of Christ!  It’s up to ALL of us, whether we are among those who suffer under the burden of finances, or are among those who flourish.

Get involved in “Enough” today!
Enough
an Apache Prayer

May the sun bring you new energy every day.
May the moon softly restore you by night.
May the rain wash away your worries.
May the breeze blow new strength into your being.
May you walk gently through the world
and know its beauty all the days of your life.

Bring Your Donations…

Goodwill
We begin our fundraiser to benefit both our church and Goodwill THIS Sunday!  All donations are accepted.

(AND, let’s be sure to offer goods that Goodwill will be able to sell in local Goodwill stores.)

How this fundraiser works:  Goodwill provides the bins and flyers. We collect donations.  They pick them up at the end of the fundraiser.  The church benefits in the amount of $0.10 per pound.  Goodwill benefits through the sales in local stores.  Easy as Pie!

Think Goodwill is just about the stores???  Nope!  Goodwill also provides…

  • Workforce Development Center
  • Adult Day Service
  • Career Development Center
  • Youth Services
  • Document Destruction
  • Industrial Janitorial Services
  • Goodwill Housing

Goodwill is also offering $15,000 in scholarships (of $1,000 each) to high school seniors so they may achieve their dream of furthering their education.

MARK YOUR CALENDAR: Transgender Day of Remembrance as part of Catalyst! November 20th at 6:30pm

The Sex Change Commission in Ukraine
It is a time of great change in Ukraine. Changes have taken place in Kyiv’s political order and its state borders; and military conflict continues to rage in the east of the country, all of which has captivated the imagination of the international media industry. As these ‘priority’ topics continue to dominate the debate, ‘peripheral’ issues such as feminism and LGBT activism inevitably fade into the background; on the rare occasions that they make it on to the radar, it is in a fragmented and one-sided manner.

If the mainstream media is to be believed, the LGBT community has faced two problems in ‘post-Maidan’ Ukraine: the cancellation of the Kyiv Gay Pride in July of this year and the decision of the new government – with EU consent – to defer the inclusion of sexual orientation or gender identity in anti-discrimination legislation. However, there are other things being ignored: the exclusion of particular issues from any debate, and the unequal distribution of power and resources within the LGBT community itself. In this situation, the experiences of Ukraine’s transgender citizens are forced out of the public arena, excluded from the activist agenda, and ignored in academic analysis. (read more…
