Get Busy, Live Better!

An integral part of being a community of faith is founded on the ways in which we reach beyond our doors and into the community around us.  As Jesus did, we best serve God when we choose serve others.  Here’s what’s going on and coming up in service to others.

Get Busy, Live Better!

Perkins Lecture Mission Event

In Partnership with First United Methodist Church, our partners for Downtown Dinner!  We have a special Missions Event planned for Tuesday, May 20, from 3:00-5:00 pm, to support “Stop Hunger Now.”  We will be packing small meal packets (with rice, soy, dehydrated vegetables, and flavoring mix) to be distributed to people in need.  Those supported include: school feeding programs, orphanages, medical clinics and crisis situations.  We will be packing in the FUMC Rec Lobby from 3:00-5:00 pm but the event is come and go, so please come whenever you can and leave when you need to. This is a great chance for us to impact world hunger by packing 10,000 meals!

Perkins Lectures

The Perkins Lectures proudly announces Reverend Adam Hamilton will speak at this year’s event, May 19th and 20th. He is the founding pastor of the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection in Leawood, Kansas. Launched in 1990, the church is the largest United Methodist Church in the United States with an average weekend attendance of 8,600.

This week, one of our church friends was in crisis.  Having been removed from her home by her landlord (for reasons both of her own making, and circumstances beyond her control), she needed assistance in moving her belongings.  The same day, she had an episode of confusion and immobility that resulted in her being admitted to the hospital.  She’s still there receiving treatment.

In her absence, a small group of volunteers from our church arrived to move as many of her belongings as possible, which are now temporarily stored in the church yard.  This mobilization happened quickly and resulted in some precious belongings from her family history being salvaged.

Jesus told us in the parable of the wedding banquet…”He said also to the one who had invited him, ‘When you give a luncheon or a dinner, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or rich neighbours, in case they may invite you in return, and you would be repaid. But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind. And you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you, for you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.'” (Luke 14:12-14)

Involvement in our church is not an exclusive family and close friends event…but an event open to all, and receiving of all.  Thank you to those volunteers who stepped into the service of another, knowing that their offering cannot be repaid.  Thank you for being Christ to someone in need.

Keep up the good Gospel, MCC!  You Are Loved!
Let no one tell you otherwise!
Yay, God!!!
