In this Moment…
Pastor’s Reflection

This Moment

“We will believe and we will give all for Your glory, all for Your glory.Because, we wanna see Your fire pour out overwhelm this place and me. In this moment, in this moment, in this moment.”

It’s not always easy for us to truly open ourselves to God’s presence in our every day lives.  God has a reputation of not following human expectations, so asking God to fill us up, to fill up our world, may seem daunting, if not altogether terrifying.  This hesitancy comes from our fears and our ego.  We don’t want to be humbled in awe and tremble.  And we don’t want our plans to be too disturbed.

Yet, this fearless outcry to God to see God’s fire pout out and overwhelm us is exactly the power that surrounded Jesus.  Not a fire to burn us and make life miserable, but to fill us and refine all those character defects that seek to make our lives a wreck.  To burn away our fear, our shame, our jealousy, our sense of lack, and our judgment.  And to replace those things with God’s assurance, with patience, with compassion, and with grace.

This is not usually a delightful, easy, or quick process.  We all need to be emblazoned by God all the time.  But since we cannot live in the past – it’s already gone – and we cannot live in the future – for that’s simply our imagination, we MUST cry out for God’s fire in this moment.  When the next moment comes along, cry out again.  Receive, stay open, and live in the moment of God’s outpouring.

In THIS moment, God is reaching to you, offering you the opportunity to live as a part of the family of Christ, and to work together with God to enact the kin-dom.  It’s in this moment that God needs you to commit.  Not later today, not in prayer time, not at church on Sunday…but in this moment…and now in this moment…and now in this moment.

Make this your moment.  Amen.
