Letter from Pastor Mel…
It is with great personal sadness that I’m writing to you today. I have received word from family that my grandmother, “Grandmano”, is in her final hours of this life. Though her pain will be over and her immense joy will soon begin in the arms of her maker, our family is grieving and anticipating the coming days in which we will say goodbye. I will be leaving today, in just a few minutes, to be with my family, and prepare to assist in the offering of her funeral and burial.
It is possible that I will have to be absent the remainder of our Advent and Christmas celebrations this coming week and next. If I am absent, please know that my prayers and thoughts are never far from you all. When I am present, please know that my grief is just that…grief…and I am blessed to have a family of faith with which to journey through.
In this season of anticipation – of active waiting for the Christ child – I am struck by this new anticipation thrust into my days. An anticipation of relief, of freedom from pain, of a joyful reunion with Christ in ways I can only imagine…all that await my Grandmano. These anticipations are similar in many ways. Both require our activity – our yearning, our doing, our releasing, and our determination. Both require our surrender – to the blessings of God, to the will of One who is always greater, and to the thresholds that take us into the unknown.
As you continue to anticipate during this Advent, remember to be active. Pray – for yourself and for others. Serve – for service is cleansing and fulfilling in its own right, and it is desperately needed by those around you. Worship – for that joyful communion with others and with God is a source of boundless hope, love, joy and peace. In all these things remember that you are part of the body of Christ – the ongoing presence of that child who grew into one who redeems. You may anticipate Christ’s coming by offering Christ’s presence and bring into this world, even if only in miraculous spurts, the kin-dom of God that we all yearn for.
Peace be with you, and much love in Christ,
– Pastor Mel

Celebrate the Advent season with our series “Awed and Odd”…for we Christians are in awe of a God that loves us so much as to send the Son to us in the birth of Jesus, and we are an odd bunch, called to act and live in contrast with the values of the world. Join us for a new understanding of the classic themes of Advent: Peace, Love, Joy, and Hope as we prepare for and celebrate the birth of Jesus, our Christ.
Join us Sunday morning for an enlightening and inspirational message from God’s word. Worship at 11:00am!
What is a drumming circle, you ask? Drumming
Circle is a gathering of individuals who appreciate and enjoy the flow of the Spirit experienced through rhythm. It’s NOT a musical performance, but the chance to come together with the drum and create a rhythm together. In the process, those who participate in drumming experience the calmness of meditation, the reviving energy of the Spirit moving through them, and the restoration of centering body, mind and spirit. You do NOT have to be a musician, or even particularly good at drumming or rhythm to take part. You DO need to have a drum or something that you can beat a consistent rhythm on (like an empty bucket or trash can). Dates: December 22 at 6:00pm, December 29 at 6:00pm.
All are Welcome!
December 24th, 7:00pm
Followed by a short Fellowship and Gift Exchange
Join us for a contemplative journey of the birth of Jesus with scripture and carols. Then, celebrate the birth with a gift exchange, “for his sake”, and for your joy and peace. Gifts will be available to those who would like to participate. If you are able, also bring a gift to share. Refreshments will be provided.

HELP US RE-TOOL THE CHURCH KITCHEN
With the increased use of our church kitchen this year for social gatherings, downtown dinner service, various meetings and ministries, we could use a revitalized set of tools for preparing food. Now through March 2014 Market Street and United Grocery is hosting it’s bi-annual cookware giveaway with their bonus stickers. Consider collecting your stickers for the church! Simply collect the stickers when you check out and bring them to church to place in the offering plate (or mail them to 1401 Travis St., WF, TX 76301). Thank you!
We fed 78 people in November!
