Wichita Falls MCC is an exuberantly inclusive, loving, and serving community of faith offering God’s promise, Christ’s salvation, and the Holy Spirit’s comfort to all.  Our mission to accomplish this vision of our church is to:  Gather in compassionate kinship with acceptance of all, Encourage awakenings within the diverse paths of following Christ, and Celebrate a common faith in a loving God, endless hope in the face of suffering and doubt, and the many gifts of the Spirit present in the Body of Christ.

It is our sincere desire that you find a warm welcome at Wichita Falls MCC,
and a place you may want to seriously consider as your spiritual home.

The Board of Trustees will be meeting on the following days.  (Dates subject to change in the event of conflicts that arise by members of the board.)

          DEEP WELL

In July, we will be meeting Christ at the well.  Like deep wellthe woman who encountered Jesus at Jacob’s well, we will find ourselves approaching the well, entering the company of Christ, immersing ourselves in the gospel teaching, and emerging with renewed understanding and hope.  Don’t miss this month of worship together!

Week 1 – July 6 – “Come to the Water”
This deep well of living water is the source of the renewal of our faith and baptism.  What will we find if we allow ourselves to come near?

Week 2 – July 13 – “Taking the Plunge”
It takes courage.  To jump in.  To move slowly.  The how doesn’t matter as much as the doing.  By entering, we must have willingness to be up to our necks in our questions, our fears, our doubts, and our longings.  But it’s the deepest water that holds what we seek.

Week 3 – July 20 – “You’re Gonna Need a Bathing Suit”
We remember Jesus baptism and our own and ask ourselves what we’ve immersed our everyday lives in – messages or death and fear, or messages of renewal?

Week 4 – July 27 – “Take a Deep Breath!”
As necessary as our regular breathing, we need the regularity of spiritual renewal.

Here are a few notes from our latest board meeting on June 22nd!

The board celebrated the receipt of a grant from MCC Austin at Freedom Oaks “MCC Cares” fund of $750.  Those funds were offered in response to an appeal by Pastor Mel to fund the port-a-potty for the homeless on our property to reduce the use of our shrubs as cover for relieving themselves.  This amount joins an additional $240 received from Sunshine Cathedral MCC in Florida.  We have an entire year of the port-a-potty covered!  …and just in time for the worst heat of the summer.  Thank you MCC family!

We’ve had an offer for low-cost pest control at the church; something we will surely need to make use of in coming months.  We should start service soon.

Thus far, since the church hired Pastor Mel we have not kept workers compensation insurance to ensure that any injury she may have on church property is covered.  We’re proud to let you know that this insurance has been acquired for her safety and ours!

The oven in our kitchen has been broken for many weeks now.  Thanks to John Snyder, we have access to some discounts at Lowe’s to replace it.  And thanks to the Yard Crew and organizers of this year’s golf tournament, we have money specifically for building that we can use!  We are in the process of replacing the stove/oven soon.

Our Change for Change drive brought in $545!  Yay, Church!

Our current official membership is now 63 active members.

The Board of Trustees is currently reviewing the contract between the church and Pastor Mel.  Several items in the contract, due to finances, haven’t been met in 2012, 2013, and will not be met in 2014.  We believe it would be beneficial to complete this review (which is written into the contract on a yearly basis) to ensure that our covenants with one another can be met.  Prayers for this review are needed!  Thank you!

On a financial note, our savings account is down to under $1,000.  Some funds need to be transferred to that account from our checking funds to replenish designated funds unintentionally used for regular drafts (for music salary and mortgage).  However, regular giving through offerings on Sunday is not enough to meet all church expenses without drafts from savings.  We expect this will continue to be the case through the summer and fall.  Prayers for the church’s finances are MOST appreciated!  The current financial report is posted in the church foyer for your review.

From: “Ten Choices You Will Regret in Ten Years” (

Avoiding change and growth. – If you want to know your past look into your present conditions.  If you want to know your future look into your present actions.  You must let go of the old to make way for the new; the old way is gone, never to come back.  If you acknowledge this right now and take steps to address it, you will position yourself for lasting success.

I mean, brothers and sisters, the appointed time has grown short; from now on, let even those who have wives be as though they had none, and those who mourn as though they were not mourning, and those who rejoice as though they were not rejoicing, and those who buy as though they had no possessions, and those who deal with the world as though they had no dealings with it. For the present form of this world is passing away. (1 Cor. 7:29-31)

One of the more difficult challenges faith in an eternal God is being patient with struggle and making room for change.  Even for those of us who seem to struggle incessantly, sometimes the struggle becomes, well, a strange kind of comfortable.  We convince ourselves that the reality we know is easier than a reality we don’t know…and so we refuse to change.  But avoiding change creates just that.  A void.

An eternal, ever-present, all-knowing God is one who asks us to trust in the reality that we cannot have God’s perspective.  With that reality comes the knowledge that we are in a world of constant change over which God has ultimate authority.  Perhaps God doesn’t CREATE each change we encounter, but God can and does work good from whatever situation we live into.  We can either get with the program and learn flexibility, or we can fight the shifting tides until we fall exhausted, unable to move in any direction, and certainly unable to do anyone else any good.

It’s not easy, accepting the role of one who moves with the Spirit.  For the Spirit moves “like a violent wind” (Acts 2).  Not peaceful.  Most often not slow.  And ever, always with the overwhelming passion of God.

When we avoid change, we avoid that Spirit.

In Genesis, the Spirit is referred to as the “breath/ruah” of God.  It’s the very thing that gives us life in its purest sense.  With the breath of God we live, with the Spirit of God we move, with the passion of God we change.  We must not get so attached to the things of this world that we forget to be made alive.  Nothing that seeks to simply take from us is from the Spirit.

God intends joyful things for us.  When the reality of this broken world consumes us, joy escapes our attention, even when the Spirit flows within us.  Pay attention for opportunities to change.  They are God’s way of blessing us.  When we choose to change, take faith in the leap God beckons from us.  When we choose not to change, be watchful for the Spirit’s leading.  Refuse to exist in a void.  Rather, take a deep breath and know that the now is passing away…and make way for God to do wonder with what’s next.

Keep up the good Gospel, MCC!  You Are Loved!

Let no one tell you otherwise!
Yay, God!!!
