Enough: Discovering Joy Through Simplicity and Generosity
Stress. Anxiety. Fear. These words capture well the state of mind of many of us in America today. We have witnessed dramatic market losses, the collapse of the world’s largest insurance company, and many bankruptcies and mergers. Every day seems to bring another piece of economic uncertainty.
A recent survey found that over three in four Americans are stressed about the economy and their personal finances. Half were worried about providing for their family’s basic needs. Over half of respondents reported feeling angry and irritable, and reported lying awake at night worried about this. The report concludes that, “The declining state of the nation’s economy is taking a physical and emotional toll on people nationwide.”
Join us in study from October 12-November 9 for a study to enhance your financial wellness, and in worship October 19th – November 2nd for a sermon series entitled Enough: Discovering Joy Through Simplicity and Generosity.
Our nation is experiencing what many have described as the “American Nightmare.” Increasing consumer debt, declines in savings, lower income growth, and a volatile stock market are all a part of our economic insecurity. We have lived in a society that tells us “you deserve it now,” whether or not we can afford it or really even need it.
All of us have struggled with these issues at one time or another. They are important issues that we cannot ignore. This is why, over the course of this series, we will be having a churchwide study and worship emphasis called Enough: Discovering Joy Through Simplicity and Generosity. During this time we will explore what the Bible teaches us about financial management through corporate worship and small group study. We’ll hear expert advice and stories about what others have learned by working through financial challenges. Each week we will provide you with some practical tools you can use to assess your financial situation and develop a financial plan with a biblical foundation.
At the conclusion of the emphasis, we will have the opportunity to make personal commitments of our offerings to God through our church in the coming year. We will consecrate these commitments in the worship service on two consecutive Sundays (see the schedule that follows).
I hope you will join us in the coming weeks as we look at how we can manage our financial resources and truly experience simplicity, generosity, and joy. ~Pastor Mel

I Wish You Enough
I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright
no matter how gray the day may appear.
I wish you enough rain to appreciate the sun even more.
I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive and everlasting.
I wish you enough pain so that even the smallest of joys in life
may appear bigger.
I wish you enough gain to satisfy your wanting.
I wish you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess.
I wish you enough hellos to get you through the final good-bye.
Bring Your Donations…
We begin our fundraiser to benefit both our church and Goodwill THIS Sunday! All donations are accepted.
(AND, let’s be sure to offer goods that Goodwill will be able to sell in local Goodwill stores.)
How this fundraiser works: Goodwill provides the bins and flyers. We collect donations. They pick them up at the end of the fundraiser. The church benefits in the amount of $0.10 per pound. Goodwill benefits through the sales in local stores. Easy as Pie!
Think Goodwill is just about the stores??? Nope! Goodwill also provides…
- Workforce Development Center
- Adult Day Service
- Career Development Center
- Youth Services
- Document Destruction
- Industrial Janitorial Services
- Goodwill Housing
Goodwill is also offering $15,000 in scholarships (of $1,000 each) to high school seniors so they may achieve their dream of furthering their education.
Members…it’s time to renew your covenant with YOUR church! As part of your Board of Trustees’ commitment to keeping updated records and offering excellent stewardship of the church’s resources, we need to know from you if you still intend to meet the covenant of membership. This covenant involves your commitment to offer time, treasure, and talent to the work of this church in spreading the Good News about the inclusive love of God, Christ, and Spirit.
We need this renewal for two important reasons:
1. Our membership number determines a portion of our assessments contributed to the Denominational Pension Fund – a fund that provides retirement funds to all pastors in the denomination. For many of our US MCC pastors, that fund is the only source of retirement they will have. The fund provides for more than JUST our pastors, past and present, but for the whole family of clergy that guide our church.
2. Knowing our covenanted membership aids leaders in our church – Pastor Mel, the Diaconate, Board of Trustees, Staff, Worship Leaders, and Ministry Leaders – to know who they may rely on for assistance in the multitude of outreach and ministry our church provides to the community.
To renew your membership covenant, simply reply to this email with a note to renew and the names of all those in your household who wish to renew. If you have not signed a membership covenant since January 2012, we do ask that you download one here
, sign it, and bring it to church. This covenant offers you the opportunity to read and agree with all that our members covenant to as a part of this faith community.
If you’re not yet a member, but would like to be: Pastor Mel will host a Membership Class the morning of September 27th at 10:00am! Meet in the Fellowship Hall! Join the class, and join the church!
The following Wichita Falls causes and organizations need help, too! Take a moment to offer them what you can.
Support our Food Bank!
Support the Wichita Falls Area Food Bank by voting for them to receive a $60,000 donation from Walmart. You can vote once each day through Oct. 5. What easier way is there to help the hungry in our community? Vote here. (Our Food Bank is currently in the top 50 list! Let’s keep them there!) Let’s work together to feed hungry people!
